Mikey had a casting this week for a new AFO boot. Rod commented on how much Mikey had improved with his balance since seeing him about 18 months ago. I really think the hippotherapy (horse riding) has helped him so much. It would be wonderful to see hippotherapy recognised as a bonofide therapy in Australia, and listed as a therapy alternative for children under the early intervention scheme. As it stands currently, it’s not, even though countries like US and many in the EU recognise it. It costs families about $1,000.00 per year to fund this out of pocket therapy. We are very fortunate that we have an excellent local school near by – Arundel RDA,that we visit weekly. The volunteers there are amazing. They are changing lives.
I totally agree Kelly, hippotherapy should be included in any funding for early intervention programs for children as the benefits are huge! Love the website and hearing stories of Mikey’s adventures…Karen
